Highly recommend.
The Pillars of the Earth is a historical novel by Ken Follett published in 1989 about the building of a cathedral in the fictional town of Kingsbridge,England. It is set in the middle of the 12th century, primarily during the Anarchy, between the time of the sinking of the White Ship and the murder ofThomas Becket. The book traces the development of Gothic architecture out of the preceding Romanesque architecture, and the fortunes of the Kingsbridge priory and village against the backdrop of historical events of the time
I actually did read the book by Ken Follett, and very much enjoyed it as well. The only thing that is a tad uncomfortable about this movie, is the level of nudity. It's quite….well, realistic. The book is along the same lines as well. It very accurately, well to my knowledge which is quite limited, depicts what…um, happens. Haha. But I really do recommend this, I even read the book after and maybe enjoyed it more because I could remember what was going to happen next and compare it with the movie. It took me about three weeks to finish, it's quite a hefty read. And the mini series itself takes about 6-7 or so hours, depending on home many bathroom breaks you take.
5 stars!
